Kate & Juan's Wedding at The Herb Lyceum
The Herb Lyceum is a quaint wedding venue located on a Homestead in Groton, MA. This venue is perfect for couples who are looking for a unique space nestled on four acres of farm which consists of greenhouses, herb gardens, trees, and a carriage house. While larger weddings utilize the space of a greenhouse, smaller weddings and dinner parties, like Juan and Kate's intimate wedding, are located in the 19th century carriage house.
Kate and Juan contacted me to photograph their wedding before they were even engaged! I love when couples mutually decide they want to get married even before all the formalities. The two met on Hinge about 2.5 years ago. Eventually Juan did propose in such a romantic way: in the middle of a move, Juan recruited the help of his family to fill their old home with lit candles for a romantic for the perfect setting when they returned home he'd have the perfect setting to pop the question. But yes; you're presuming correctly... they planned a wedding at the same time as buying a new house!! Such an exciting, busy time in their lives.
While wedding planning, initially they were hoping to have a small wedding somewhere in Worcester, but after searching around for a perfect venue, they landed on The Herb Lyceum. The Herb Lyceum could accommodate their small guest list of 24 people for a farm fresh meal inside the carriage house, a ceremony out in the garden, and cocktail hour both under a small pergola and out in the field to play some lawn games. They also had a white pitched tent on a patio area where Kate and Juan did their first dance, and there's a fire pit as well where all the guests warmed up on the chilly April evening!

A few personalized things Kate and Juan did for their wedding:
Juan's friend Val officiated their wedding
Kate's sister baked the cake, and included a little figurine of their cat, Marshall
They had no wedding party, but all of their nieces and nephews had boutonnieres and corsages and walked down the aisle to start the ceremony
Kate and Juan walked down the aisle together
They shared a short dance immediately after their ceremony in the aisle before another official first dance later on in the night
They had an extra long cocktail hour for everyone to mingle and play lawn games including jenga, bocce, bubbles, and Kan Jam.
Their party ended with music and cake around the fire.

I absolutely loved hanging out with Kate and Juan's family and capturing candids of all of the joy throughout the evening!! Capturing those fleeting, real moments from a wedding in a documentary way is so fun and I'd love to go back to The Herb Lyceum again! So if you, dear reader, are planning to be married at the Herb Lyceum, whether at the carriage house or in the greenhouse, I'd absolutely love to chat about how I might be of service!
